BOXING
STIRLING DEFEATS GRIFFIN. [TER press association.] DUNEDIN, May 2fi. A professional iifteen-round boxing contest, lor the New Zealand welterweight championship was staged at the Town Hall last night, when the holder, Don Stirling (Oamaru), lOst 31b., easily defeated Jim Griffin (Waipukurau) fist GAlbs., by a technical knock-out in the fifteenth round. The bout was one-sided and uninteresting, the loser being no match for Stirling, but he fought gamely. The preliminary was a ten-round feather-weight professional contest between C. Buckley (Dunedin), fist 21bs. and Billy Aiken (Wellington) Sst Ribs, This was fast and willing and compensated for the big bout. Aiken, r fast ami clever boxer, scored a comparatively easy victory on points, and got a great ovation from the crowd. DUNEDIN. May 27.
Following Saturday’s boxing, Griffin was examined by a doctor and found to be suffering from concussion, but it is condition was not considered serious. He will be confined to his bed for a few days.
