REEFTON, May 25.

Mrs Douglas Shepherd and family, of Christchurch, are spending a short holiday in Reefton. Some thirty players enjoyed a series of games of euchre at a tourney conducted in the band room on Friday night. Supper was served. The party was conducted by the Waratah. Football Club. Mr J. B. Auld, on behalf of Mrs Auld and himself, donated to the club first, and second aggregate prizes, and also handed the club a cheque for the funds. Mr Dellaca thanked Mr and Mrs Auld for their gift. The- ladies’ prize was won by Mrs Gilroy. Mr F. Colil.s won the men’s prize.

Mr P. Salmon presided at a general meeting of the subsidised prospectors and unemployed workers’ association, on Saturday morning. Mr Smith, Minister of Employment, wrote regarding the removal of tux on gold won by the subsidised prospector.;, staling that lie was placing the matter before the proper author! t ies. The sum of .C2/12/6 was handed to the Treasurer by Mr C. Wright, as a result, of the recent picture benefit. — It. was resolved that Mr Cereseto be accorded a vote of thanks. Tho gathering decided that an admission fee of 6<l be charged fop the association, also that a small levy be made among members, when necessary. Rev. W. F. Evans offered to or-

ganise a. function, and was appointed a member of the committee.

The Secretary was instructed to write to the .Minister of Employment regarding application for gumboots, and also asking that supplies of blankets bo made available for single men, and requesting that, supplies of explosives bo made to men in alluvial districts.

The Fire Brigade were accorded a vote of thanks for tho use of their hall for mooting, pud it was resolved to organise a football match. Married v. Single, at an early date. REEFTON. May 27. The action 'of the Waiuta Sub-Branch in purchasijng a floral tribute for a deceased member was approved. Mr. J. Scott, of Waiuta. was appointed the Branch’s delegate to tho Dominion Connell morning to be held in Wellington. He was last seen alive on Saturday night, making his

way to his hut, arid was in normal health and condition. Deceased had been a resident of the Inangahua district. for many years. 'rhe funeral of thf late Mrs. M. f.eggoo took place on Sunday aftef'noon. The cortege moved from tho late residence, Ikarnatua, to Wesley, Church, Reefton. and the.nfco to the Suburban Cemetery. Rev. C. R. Dleltous. of Worh-y Church, conducted the service at tho Church, and at. the graveside. Fifty motor-cars formed tho procession. Many beautiful floral tributes were received. A large number travelled from Greymouth to attend, and Brethren of the Reefton U.A.O.D. attended in full force. Schools in tho Inangahua district reopened to-day, after the term holidays. The newly appointed headmaster of the Reefton District Hieh School, Mr. F. S. Hayes, took charge.
