VIRGINIA CHERRILL’S DIVORCE
LOS ANGELES DECREE
LOS ANGELES. March 27
Miss Virginia Cherrill, tho film actress, was granted an interlocutory decree* of divorce to-day from Mr Cary Grant, the actor, whom she married in London in February, 1934. She, charged her husband with desertion, nagging without cause, and refusing to accompany her to places of amusement or to the homos of her friends. In. December Miss Cherrill filed a suit for separate maintenanee and her husband was ordered to pay £132 a month and £5OO on account to her. She gave evidence then that she had had to pawn her engagement ring and wrist watch to pay her living exp( uses. In her complaint tile alleged that Mr Cary Grant "used liquor excessively, choked her. last her, and threatened her life."—Reuter.
Miss Cherrill, who is. 27, achieved In r first great success when chosen ly Mr Charles Chaplin to play ihe leading part, of the blind flower-girl in his film "City I ighL” She has also been seen in "The Nuisance" and “Charlie Chan's Greatest Case.” Mr Cary Grant, who was born in Bristol and had his first singe experience in England, has appeared in the films, "Blondo Venus." “She Done. Him Wrong," "I’m No Angel.” "Alice l in Wonderland," and "Born to be Bad."
