She alleged that the defendant, Reginald Stanko’ Bates, of Shenley-road, Camberwell, S.E.. was rhe father of a - hild born to her in January.

Mr. 11. J. Hamblen, for Mrs. Minks, said that before and after ‘he execution of her husband .‘•he received a large number of letters of sympathy. On May 15. eleven days after the execution. Bates replied, asking if he might see her. She war, "then at Brighton. She stated she was willing to receive him. and he joined her.

They ft aw each other frequently uutil the end of September. Mrs. Hiiiks would say that the question of marriage at an early opportunity was discussed within a few days of their first meeting. Bates having expressed his anxiety to do all he could for Mrs. Minks. From correspondence it would bo seen that there was a cooling off in Bates's affections for Mrs. Minks towards the epd of August, due to the fact that he had fallen in love with "a woman of considerable means and attractions.”

The clerk asked whether it was possible for the husband to have been the father.

Mr. Hamblen replied that Minks was arrested in January of last year, but he should need an adjournment to call evidence that Minks was in custody

until his execution. The hearing was adjourned.
