[BY CABLE—PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.) SEA LION HOBART, April 24. A large sea lion was found asleep on a footpath in New Norfolk, 22 miles from Hobart. Attempts were made to capture it, and a rope was placed around the neck, but it broke away, and clambering over a paling fence, escaped into the Derwent River. It was nine feet long, and very fat.
rowing boat mishap MELBOURNE, April 24. In similar circumstances as in the case of the Scots College boat in Sydney (on April 5) the University racing eight was cut in halves by a ferry steamer during a practice run. The racing shell was carried into,, the path of the ferry by the flood waters of the Maribyrnong river. The rowers, who were rescued by the crew of the ferry, were uninjured apart from shock of immersion. VICTORIAN FLOODS. MELBOURNE, April 2?>. The flood waters are subsiding in Gippsland, but the township of Tinamba is still isolated, with two ieet of water in. the main streets. Many families are marooned in houses in other submerged areas. Premier Dunstan said that the Government had called for departmental reports concerning the best methods of minimising floods in those areas which regularly suffer therefrom. The Government is prepared to take immediate action to apply a remedy.
