The Kanna arrived on Thursday night, and is to sail to-night for' Westport, Wellington and Gisborne. The James Cook arrived yesterday morning and is to sail on Wednesday morning with timber for Sydney and Newcastle.
The Rata sailed on Thursday night, for Onakaka. The Alexander is to sail to-night, for Petone, with timber. The Kalingo is to sail on Wednesday, for Sydney and Melbourne. The Kaimiro leaves Dunedin to-day for Bluff, Westport, and Greymouth. She is due about April 26, to load timber for Melbourne and Adelaide. The Omana loads Greymouth cargo at Newcastle and Sydney about April 26,. via New Plymouth and Wellington. The Kaimai is due on Friday next from New Plymouth to load for Wellington, KHramar and New Plymouth. A Union Company steamer is due on April 29, to load for Auckland. CONSTRUCTION RETURNS. RUGBY, April 17. Lloyd’s Register shows that on March 31, 116’ merchant vessels of 555,815 tons gross were under construction in Britain and Ireland, a total of '41,000 tons less than at the end of the previous quarter, when, however, the shipping completed was greater than usual. It was 74,000 tons greater than a year ago. During the March quarter, work was begun on 144,000 tons, an increase, of 51,000'tons on the corresponding total for the previous three months. On March 31, there was throughout the world 1,269,000 tons under construction, of which total, 43.8 per cent was. being built in Britain and Ireland’ ' AT OTHER PORTS. SIDNEY, April 19.
