At Melbury tennis tournament, in the quarter-finals, Malfroy defeated Nigel Sharpe 6/2, 6/4; Miss Round defeated Mrs Whittingshall 6/1, 6/4. LATER. At Melbury, in the semi-final, Austin defeated Malfroy 6/1, 6/0. AUSTRALIAN TOURISTS. ROME, April 18. In the Italian tennis championships, Canepele, a young Italian, defeated Hopman (Australia) 6/4, 4/6, 6/3, 3/6, 6/3. The Australian Davis Cup players who practised for the first time today, play at Monte Carlo on April 26 and 30, only in the doubles and mixed doubles, and thence proceed direct to Eastbourne for the Cup tie against New Zealand. COAST SCHOOLBOYS. The final of the West Coast Secondary Schoolboys’ tennis championship singles, played, on Thursday afternoon, resulted: J. Baddely (Technical) defeated L. Sharman (Technical) 7/5.
