Mrs. J. E. Joyce, senr., of Dunedin, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Joyce, Murray Street.

Constable J. F. McGlynn will return, on Thursday, from Wellington, after annual leave.

Mr J. King, Inspector of Permanent Way, Westport, has received notice of transfer to Whangarei.

. Mrs. T. Howard, Runanga, left today, for Wellington,, -an.,route to England, on an extended holiday.

Miss J. -Bari'aclough/ .who, has been the guest of Mr. and Mrs. R. Hall, left to-day, oh return to Pahiatua.

Mrs. H. Morison, Pahiatua, is visiting her sister, Mrs. W. Tumilty, Marlborough Street.

Mr S. G. Neeve will leave on Thursday, for Auckland, where he will reside. 1

Rev. H. Nelson Wright, vicar of Akaroa, and formerly of Hokitika, will pay a short visit to England in July.

Mr J. Mahoney, of the State Mines Department, Runanga, has received notice of transfer to the Valuation Department, Christchurch.

Mrs Mahoney, who has been the guest of Mrs J. Forrest, Shakespeare Street, left this morning, on return to Christbhurcli.

Mr. Adolph S. Ochs, publisher of the “New York Times,” died suddenly from cerebral haemorrhage (stated a New York cablegram).

Miss C. Badger and Miss A. Clements will return to Greymouth, this afternoon, after a hqliday trip to Melbourne.

A New York cablegram announced the death of Mr Warren Delano Robbins, aged 50, the United States Minister to Canada, and a cousin of President Roosevelt. He died after a week’s illness from pneumonia.

A London cablegram stated that the Daily Express’s Dublin correspondent says that eyesight trouble is increasingly worrying to Mr. De Valera, who may go to the United States to consult a specialist.

Subf-’nspectoir D. A. Mac Lean, Christchurch, will arrive, this afternoon, to relieve Inspector D. Cameron, of Greymouth, for holiday leave. Inspector Cameron will visit Central Otago.

The funeral of the late Mrs Mary Condon, of South Beach, took place this morning, at Karoro Cemetery. Rev. Father Holohan celebrated Requiem Mass at St. Patrick’s Church, and also conducted the service at the graveside.

Rev. W. ,H. Orbell, vicar of Papanui and rural dean of North Christchurch, has resigned his appointment as from the end of June. He will be suceeded in the cure of Papanui by the Rev. Eric A. Osmers, vicar of the Methven parochial district (and formerly of Ross).

A Christchurch telegram announced the death of Thornton Henry CapeWilliamson, formerly of the Railway Department, well-known recently for his work as honorary director of the Metropolitan Relief Association. He retired from this position in November last, owing to illness.

Tho death is announced from Sydney, of Mr David Watkins, Labour member for Newcastle in the House of Representatives. Ha had been a member continuously since the inception of tho Federation in the year 1901. He was regarded as “the father” of the House He was 70 years of age. The Federal Cabinet has decided that, he shall be accorded a State funeral.

A Wellington telegram announced the death of Mother de Sales of St. Mary’s Convent, a niece of the late Archbishop Redwood. She was the second daughter of My. Cyrus Coulter, of Marlborough, and for fifty-two years was a professed nun. She held the position of Mistress of Schools practically to the end. Her death occurred on the birthday of the late Archbishop.
