WAGES BOOK FRAUD
EMPLOYER FINED * [PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] I WELLINGTON, March 29. | For making a false entry in wages and time books, Rene Gerondis, proprietor of a Willis Street cafe, was fined £l5 by Mr. E. Page, S.M.. who 1 said that the entry was wilfully false setting at nought the whole purpose oi the statute. I Inspector J. Georgeson, oi the. Labour Department, said that the defendant had entered in the wages book that a waitress was receiving 30/- a week, whereas she was actually receiving only 16/-. I Mr. Stephenson, for Gerondis. said that under the provisions of the new award the girl, who was employed as a probationer, would have lost her position, but she had persuaded Gerondis to keep her on at a smallei. sa ]arv. i Mr. Georgeson said that collusion, between the workers and the employ-1 ers added to the difficulties-of the inspectors.
