MAGISTRATE’S COURT

HOKITIKA DECISIONS At the Magistrate’s Court, Hokitika, yesterday, before Mr. H. Morgan, S.M., Herbert Henry Newey, son of the licensee of the Three. Mile Hotel, was fined £l. with 10/- costs, for unlawfully supplying liquor. Three men found on the premises were each fined 15/- with costs, and one was fined 25/with costs.

Albert Stephens was fined £l, with £l/0/6 costs, for causing damage to a road, by driving a tractor ovei’ it. It was stated that defendant had not received permission to drive the tractor on road. John Wright was fined £l/10/-, with £l/0/6 costs, on a charge of speeding in a motor-car. Mark Wallace was fined 10/-, with 12/6 costs, for using an unlicensed motor-lorry. Henry Jones was fined £2, with costs, for driving a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner, and was ordered to pay costs on a charge of failing to keep to the left. John Williams, a barman, was fined £3, with costs, for aiding and abetting in the offence of unlawfully opening the premises of the Commercial Hotel. „ . . John Lancelot Menzies, of Kanien Forks, was fined £2, with 12/. costs, for failing to keep a proper look.out for traffic approaching on his right. Peter Chambers Harris, of Christchurch, was similarly penalised for driving at an excessive speed. The charges were the outcome of a motoi accident at Hokitika on February 8.
