RUGBY. March 29.
The Prime Minister announced in the Commons, that Viscount Bridgeman had been appointed Chairman of the British Broadcasting Corporation, in place of Mr J. 11. Whitley, who died last month. Lord Bridgeman has been a member of the Board of Governors of the Corporation since 1933.
Mr 11. A. L. Fisher has now heen appointed to the vacancy on the Board. Mr Fisher is warden of New College, Oxford. lie was Minister of Education from 1916 to 1922.
JAPS AND TIMOR

A Dutchman. Baron Van Yzeren, claiming to possess the sole concession for petroleum, manganese and gold in Portuguese Timor is busily negotiating a lease to a Japanese syndicate. He says that the proposals are promising. The naw is greatly interested.

Brook, a day ahead of James Melrose's record, left this morning for Athens. He was tired but cheerful, and hopes to be in London, to-mor-row. _____________
