CUSTOMS FIGURES The revenue collected at the Customhouse, Greymouth for the year ended March 31, 1935, constituted a record for the Port. The figures are given below, the figures for the corresponding period of the previous year being given in brackets: — Total collections £110,854 (£97,386) Included in the foregoing are Customs Duties £34,692 (£29,643). Sales Tax £19,944 (£16,660). Gold Export Duty £27,625 (£30,117). The figures for the month of March are: — Total Collections £10,468 (£8,716), which includes Customs Duties £3,397 (£3,459), Sales Tax £1,777 (£1,562), Gold Export Duty £1,866 (£1208). Owing to the increased activity the grading of the Collector has recently been raised. VITAL STATISTICS The vital statistics for the month of March, 1935, with the comparisons with the corresponding month of last year in parentheses, are as follow: — Births 19 (23); deaths 7 (13); marriage notices issued 7 (14); marriages by Registrar — (2). The statistics for the first quarter of this year, with the corresponding com. parisons are: Births 23 (29); deaths 66 (68); marriage notices issued 25 (27); marriages by Registrar, 2 (4).
