BRUNNER-NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The whist drive'conducted by the Taylorville School Committee on Wednesday evening resulted in the following prize-winners:—Mr T. Nimmo 1, Mrs Mclnnes 2, Mr J. Russell 3. The annual meeting, of the Brunner Women’s Institute was held on Thursday evening in Wallsend, Miss A. Gainsford presiding over a large attendance. A visit was received from Mrs Black, president of the West Coast Federation, who gave an interesting talk on the aims of the Institute; its inception and its growth. The annual balance sheet and report were read and adopted as satisfactory; members and officers being thanked for their assistance during the year. To Air R. R. Smith, who audited the books, a hearty vote of thanks and appreciation was accorded. A resignation was regretfully received from* our “Grannie," who is about to leave the district, one new member was welcomed and two new members accepted. Miss Smeaton and Mrs Johnstone were appointed delegates to attend the annual conference of the West Coast Federation to be held in Greymouth on April 12. The election of officers resulted: —President, Miss A. B. Smeaton; vice-presi-dents, Miss A. Gainsford, Mrs J. Pender; treasurer, Mrs H. Johnstone; secretary, Miss M. Rodgers; committee: Mesdames Kerr, Tennant, F. Smith, Partridge, Miss M.’ Newlands, Miss Smeaton thanked the members for the confidence displayed in her, and promised she would endeavour to carry out her duties to the advantage of the Institute.
