RUNANGA SPORTS

AT DUNOLLIE TO-MORROW.

Having a splendid programme of athletic events, with large entries in each, to place before the public at its annual meeting to-morrow, the Runanga Sports Club has but to be favoured with fine weather, and success awaits it. The sports will be held in Steele’s paddock, Dunollie. The running track has been specially prepared, and thp heats and finals should produce close contests. The 100yds and 120yds events have each attracted 26 entries. Forty axemen have nominated for the 14in. underhand chop, and the names of Bannister Bros., Chas. Neame, Carl Gillman, the Jacksons, the Williams, and others, are sufficient to satisfy the public that quality will be present as well as numbers. The Upright Chop has an entry of 28, with all the best axemen included. The maiden chop has brought together twelve young men who are keen to reach the top in log chopping. The whippet racing now claims a prominent position on all sports programmes. It has firmly established itself with the public. To watch these little dogs speeding over the ground, and the hurdles is a real treat. Other attractions will be tug-c’-war contests, quoiting, dancing, a baby show, and many events for children. Afternoon tea, ice-cream and soft drinks will be obtainable on the grounds, while side shows conducted by the Club will also be available to those desirous of testing their skill. The- Greymouth Municipal Band will be in attendance. There will be seating accommodation for 400 persons, and standing rom for 4000, and every person who attends the sports to-mor-row, will he sure of an interesting afternoon of clean, exciting sport. The children’s events will commence at 12.30 p.m.
