STATE BANQUET CANCELLED

CABINET REFUSED INVITATION. TORONTO.. February 4. The Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario, Col. the Hon. Herbert Bruce, has cancelled the traditional State dinner, which has hitherto always been held in connection with the opening of the Ontario Legislature. The following oflicial announcement has been sent to all those invited: “The Lieutenant-Governor regrets that, the Prime Minister of Ontario and his Cabinet having declined the invitation to be present at a State dinner on February 20, this function will not be held. He trusts you have not been inconvenienced." Tho Prime Minister of Ontario. Mr. Hepburn, has stated, as his reason for declining the invitation, that to attend such a dinner would be inconsistent with his declared policy, that the maintenance of a provincial Government House was an unnecessary espouse to Ontario. —Reuter.
