EVENTS AT DUNEDIN

DUNEDIN, February 27.
The British and Finnish athletes took part in a sports meeting at the Caledonian ground, this evening. The track was slow and the weather cold. There was a good attendance. Rampling (Great Britain) won the 440 yards and Powell (Great Britain) was placed second in the 880yds. Rampling won his heat in the 220 yards, off scratch in 22 3-ssec., but did not compete in the final. Perasalo (Finland) took third place in the broad jump. Results: — Discus Throw. —Holt (44ft) 135 ft. 6in, 1; Ward (40ft.> 2; Spillance (33 feet) 3; Sippala (Finland) (scr) threw 124 feet.
Broad Jump.—Johnson (Ift. Gin.) 23ft. 6in. 1; Ward (Ift. 6in.) 2; Perasalo (Finland) (scr) 3. 440 yards.—Rampling (Great Britain) (scr)-l; Tynie (11yds) 2; Gerkins (15yds) 3. Time 50 2-ssec. Javelin Throw. —Newall (15£t) 212 ft. Sin. 1; Creeser (45ft.) 2; Ward (65ft) 3. Sippala (Finland) (scr) threw 203 ft. 9in.
Mile Footrace. —L. C. McLachlan (scr) 1; Pullar (scr) 2; Morris (30 yards) 3. Time 4 min. 26 l-ssec. Craske (Great Britain) came fourth. High Jump.—Kennedy (lljin.) 6ft. 3in. 1; Metcalfe (Invercargill) (Ift. 2in) 2; Longworth (Ift. 4in.) 3. Perasalo (Finland) (scr) jumped 6ft. 2in. Putting the Shot. —Morgan (Bft.) 42 ft. 9in. 1; Dalgleish (North Otago) '(lift. 6in.) 2; Ward (14ft) and Parkhill (North Otago) (10ft.) equal 3. Sippala (Finland) (scr) and Perasalo (Finland) (2ft. 3in.) each did 41ft 3in. 880yds.—Allen (20yds) 1; Powell (Great Britain) (scr) 2; Austin (15 yds) 3. Time Imin. 57 2-ssec. D. Murdoch, the Scottish sprinter, did not make an appearance. He has strained a leg muscle, and will not be able to run again on this tour.
GREY CLUB MEETING.
A meeting of the Greymouth Amateur Athletic Club was held last evening, there being present: Messrs Guy (chairman), T. Ryan, W. Williams, F. Eggelton, C. Hall, A. Edwards, F. Smyth, T. Mclntosh, I. Steel and Mrs Kroening. It was decided that Mrs Kroening be elected to the committee, as the ladies’ representative. After discussion, it was decided to levy an admission charge of; 6d at Rugby Park on Saturday next. ’The following programme was decided upon:—Schoolboy events, 75yds, 100yds handicaps and 440yds relay race. Schoolgirls’ events: 50yd£, 75yds handicap, and 440yds relay race. Secondary Schoolboys: 100yds, 220yds, long jump, and hop, step and jump. Senior, events: 100yds, 220yds, 880yds, long jump, and hop, step and jump.
The officials for Saturday were appointed as follow: —Starter, Mr I. Steel; judges, Messrs C. Hall, A. Edwards and J. Ford; mark stewards, Messrs J. Shannon and F. Eggelton; timekeeper, Mr T. Oxenham; call steward, Mr Quinn; record clerks, Bro. Oswin and C. R. Rollinson. The visit of the Canterbury and Westport athletes to Greymouth in March was discussed, and means of sharpening up the local athletes were discussed. It was resolved to include scratch races at some sports meeting in the near future, for this purpose.
