FATAL SNAKE-BITE

Florence Mariett, 21, died in the Mullumbimby Hospital, after having been bitten by a snake. She was bitten while she. was walking along the street. She received first-aid, and was hurried to the hospital ,but without avail. ' . t. .

WARSHIPS’ N.Z. CRUISE. SYDNEY, February 28.

The cruisers Canberra, and Sussex left, this morning, for a cruise to New Zealand, and will' be followed to-mor-row by the destroyers Vendetta, Voyager, and Stuart. The Squadron will carry out exercises in New Zealand waters.

N.S.W. RELIEF WORKERS SYDNEY, February 28.

The State Cabinet has completed a scheme giving greatly-improved conditions to relief workers. Seventeen thousand additional men will be employed within the next few weeks. The earnings of all the men will be increased by an average of two shillings per week, and in the case of-men with large families, the increase will be five shillings.

ABATTOIRS STRIKE BRISBANE, February 28. A mass meeting of members of the unions concerned, which was attended by 600 strikers, decided to continue the Brisbane abattoirs strike. The meeting considered the dispute is at present in the vital stage. Killing, however, continues at the abattoirs and so far there has been no meat shortage.
