JEAN BATTEN’S PLANS

SYDNEY. February 28

The “Telegraph” says flying enthusiasts are convinced that Jean Batten is contemplating a long flight in the very near future. Some say that-she will make a* spectacular flight to New Zealand, and others considei it will be to England. Miss Batten’s whereabouts at piesent are unknown. Her plane is being overhauled at Mascot, and recently she has been practising landings at dusk.

In the Commons, answering questioners suggesting, arising out of the suicide from an aeroplane ot two American sisters, that it should be compulsory for every air liner to carry a steward, to ensure the safety ot passengers. Sir P. Sassoon said that the Air Ministry did not consider such a regulation was necessary.

It was stated, in reply to a commons question, that the Air (Lord Londonderry) decided some months ago to appoint a special committee to investigate, as a matter of urgency, the possibility of countering air attacks by utilising the recent progress of scientific invention. The committee is already at work, and in due course its report will be brought before the Committee of Imperial DeThe Air Attacks Committee include., Mr H. T. Tizard, Rector of the imperial College of Science, and Professors Hill and Blackett, of London University. Other distinguished scientists will be invited to contribute to the investigation.
