“MAD FAKIR”
TRIBESMEN DEFEATED
NORTH-WEST FRONTIER RAID
[by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]
CALCUTTA, February 26
A fakir of Alingarh. known as “The Mad Fakir,” a notorious North-west Frontier raider, is again causing trouble, necessitating action by British and Indian troops and by the artillery and Air Force. The fakir, with a force of over 400 well-armed Utmankhel tribesmen, crossed the Swat River into the Kalakand area, which is under British administration, and attacked Imperial forces who were constructing a defensive post, there, to guard against further incursions.
After continual sniping, and frequent night raids, the tribesmen were forced into an open conflict, in which they were heavily defeated, sustaining many casualties, and retreating across the Swat River.
The British and Indian troops lost one killed and two wounded.
