SOUTHLAND’S FAREWELL
LORD AND LADY BLEDISLOE

INVERCARGILL, February 25
Their Excellencies, the GovernorGeneral, Lord Bledisloe. and ; Lady Bledisloe, took farewell to-day ’of the province of Southland and its capital, Invercargill, before their impending departure for England. Lowering skies had given place to sunshine when they arrived, shortly after midday, and this ushered in a calm summer evening. The civic. larewell took place in the picturesque setting of the Queen’s Park. During the afternoon. Lord Bledisloe presented a handsome cup. which he donated for competition anion" the cheese factories of New Zealand at the London Dairy Snow, to the winning factory. Thornbury, and then he and Lady Bledisloe visited the Southland Hospital. ... ~ At six o’clock, a civic farewell was tendered, and to Queen Park flowed <1 great part of the city’.-; population, adults and children. The latter, excited at His Excellency's grant to t-ieni oi a full day's holiday, gave the viceRcgal couple a welcome and larewell seldom outdone in spontaneity and heaviness. Their Excellencies will leave for Dumslin to-morrow morning.
