fOUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] REEFTON, February 9. An outbreak of fire completely destroyed a barn at Cronadun on Thursday night, the property of • Mr. J. O’Malley. The whole of the season’s crop of hay, a full complement of farm machinery and a dynamo, were all destroyed and Mr. O’Malley will be a heavy loser. Rev. Father Seymour, S.M., of the Church of the Sacred Heart, will conduct his farewell services on Sunday. On Monday evening he will be farewelled by the Reefton Musical Society and on Tuesday the parishioners entertain the departing priest. Mrs. F. Cate of Grey Road, sustained a fall on Friday morning and came down on her left arm. breaking it. Mrs. Cate was treated by Dr. Wicken and later taken to hospithl. Mr. S. Williams of Christchurch, is visiting Reefton. The gold mining industry in the Inangahua District is looking better and Blackwater mine and Alexander |as well as Big River all show improved returns for January. Waitahu is again working and when more water is available sluicing returns should improve. Several new properties are awaiting a test by a boring plant and the Maruia district is being ( worked by prospecting parties. A lot I of pegging has been done in this dis--1 trict. An area held in the Alfred River by a local syndicate has been well prospected by shaft sinking and good values were obtained, it is con- _ fidently anticipated that testing by a drill will give very satisfactory‘results from depeer wash the depth of which can only be proved by boring. ’
