SCOTTISH IMMORALITY

SIGNIFICANT STATISTICS

[by CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.]

(Recd. February 8, 10 a.m.) LONDON, February 7

"One out of every five children in Scotland are born out of holy matrimony,” said Major A. It. Haverfield, at the annual meeting of the Glasgow Galloway Diocesan Council, when attacking the appalling immorality in Scotland.

He added that illegitimate births in Wigtown County per thousand were 178.8, compared with the highest English figure of 42. He estmated that 12 to 13 per cent, of Scottish marriages were irregular, but later regularised by sheriff’s warrant. He blamed ignorance, combined with the cinema and modern novels.
