JAPANESE POLICY
TRADE AND RELIEF

TOKIO, January 22.
In the Diet, Admiral Okada. Prime Minister, said that the Government has a project for the relief, and the eventual rehabilitation of Japans suffering farming and fishing populations. The general tone of his speech was somewhat optimistic, especially as to the growth of foreign trade, the Minister anticipating further expansion. M. Takahashi reviewed the Budget, and deplored the world-wide trend to monetary and trade barriers. He urged, international co-operation . in expanding commerce for a revival ot prosperity.
CHINESE EASTERN RAILWAY.
TOKIO, January 22
The materialisation of the transfer of the Chinese Eastern Railway from the Soviet has ended, thus concluding 19 months’ negotiations. The price is 170,000,000 yen. The transfer will be effected in February. It is expected that Britain will benefit hugely by the transfer, from the purchase of railway equipment when Manchukuo begins' the reconstruction and unification of the car lines.
