ROYAL SHOW MISHAP
HORSE BOLTS INTO CROWD. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] INVERCARGILL, December 13. Four people were taken to the hospital this afternoon, as the result of a sensational accident in the ring at the Royal Show. When the grand parade was nearing its end, a saddle horse, ridden by Miss Hillary Jones, of Invercargill, took the bit between its teeth, and bolted round the ring. Miss Jones remained firmly in the saddle, as the horse galloped round. To the horrified eyes of spectators, it suddenly leapt the rails round which many people were clustered and landed right among them. The rider fainted from the shock of the accident, but she was unhurt.
A famiiy. named Schmidt., were the chief sufferers from the animal's flying hoofs. Katrina Schmidt, aged 7. is still in the hospital suffering from a fractured arm, and Miss Nellie Schmidt, aunt of the little girl, is an inmate suffering from injured ribs and bruises on the face. The mother of the injured children was knocked cved, but escaped injury, though she ow.-ffered slightly from shock. The horse (W. Hastie’s Royal Lady) was not injured, and later took part in the championship jump.
