L.T.A. AND PROFESSIONALS. LONDON, Deceihber 7. The Lawn Tennis Association, at its annual meeting, failed to show the necessary two-thirds majority for a motion prohibiting amateurs from writing for newspapers for payment. The voting was 53 to 47 in favour of an amendment to the contrary. The meeting resolved that the British delegates urge the International Federation to amend its rules to prohibit an amateur from accepting money or pecuniary advantages by posing for, or permitting, films to be taken of him, oi” advertising or permitting his name to be advertised as the author of a book or newspaper article of which he is not the actual author, or instructing in tennis by private or press correspondence. Sir Samuel Hoare, who was reelected chairman, declared that nothing was farther from the truth than the suggestion of hostility between the Association and the professionals. “The new relationship between amateurs and professionals promises to .be mutually beneficial,” he said.
