N.S.W. CHAMPIONSHIPS. [BY CABLE! —PBEBS ASSN. —COPYBISHT.] SYDNEY, November 29. , The feature of to-day’s play in the Now South Wales Tennis Championships, which wore continued in hot weather, was the elimination of the Australian women’s singles champion, Miss Joan Hartigan, at the hands of the tall Queenslander, Mrs Westmacott. Results were: —
■ Meir’s singles, semi-finals: Crawford defeated Hopman 8/6, 0/6, 6/4, 6/3; Periy defeated Quist 6/3, 6/1, 6/3. Women’s singles, semi-finals.—Mrs Westmacott defeated Miss Hartigan 7/5, 6/4; Miss Round defeated Miss Lyle, 7/5, 6/3.
Men’s doubles, quarter-finals: Hopman and Maier defeated Menzel and Moon 6/3, 6/2, 8/6; Kirby and Quist defeated Dunlop and Donohoe 6/4, 6/2, 7/5; Crawlord and McGrath defeated Thompson and Moore 6/4, 6/4, 6/1; Perry and Hughes defeated Walker and Sproule 6/4, 6/4, 5/7, 6/4. Women’s doulilcs, quarter-finals: Mcsdames Westmacot and Molesworth defeated Misses Dingle and Coyne 4/6, 6/3, 6/2; Misses Hartigan and Bickerton defeated Misses Hattersley and Selwin 5/7. 7/5, 6/1; Miss Round and Mrs Hopman defeated Misses Chrystal and Garlick 6/0, 8/6; Misses Dearman and Lyle defeated Misses Chitty and Blick 6/1, 6/1.
The Crawford-Hopman singles game was poor and unimpressive. Perry was in superb form, his strokes being so well concealed that frequently they left Quist standing when advancing to the net. Perry, on the other hand, ■was never out of position.
