HOKITIKA NOTES

[our own correspondent.] HOKITIKA. November 17. Dr. Teichelmann (President) presided over a small attendance at the monthly meeting of the Westland branch of the Canterbury Automobile Association, held last evening. Those present were Messrs J. J. Mclntosh, H. F. Cooke, W. E. Richards and H. W. Lodge (secretary). It was reported that since last meeting numerous signs of different description have been put up along the roads in the district, particulai Ij in South Westland. The hope was expressed by members that all bridges and culverts on the main highways be two-way bridges. Mr A. Baker, who is on transter to the Bank of New Zealand, Greymouth, was the guest at a pleasant function at Mclntosh’s club rooms yesterday afternoon, when he was the recipient of a golf club from the members of the Hokitika Golf Club. Many pleasing references were made to the guest concerning his capacity as bank manager, as a citizen and a sport. The members keenly regretted his departure from Hokitika, but rejoiced at his promotion. All wished Mr Baker Mrs Baker and family a happy future. Mr Baker feelingly replied, stating that his stay in Hokitika had been very happy, and thanked the club for its expression of goodwill. He would not be far away and hoped to continue his connection with Hokitika. The toast of the guest was drunk with musical honours. Mr Baker leaves for Greymouth on Tuesday next.
