Crankshaw returned yesterday, from Christchurch. Mr A. Walton will return to-morrow, from a visit to Australia. Mr J. Shrives left yesterday,, for Otahuhu. Mr and Mrs F. M. Dennehy returned yesterday from Christchurch. Passengers by yesterday’s express from Christchurch included: Messrs T. O’Neil, J. Stubbs, J. Devaney, D. Griffen, A. V. Oliver, D. Wright. J. Adamson, J. Ryall, A. Smith. An Auckland telegram, to-day, announced the death of Dr. Herbert Barraclough, aged 85, formerly of the. Mental Hospitals Department, and for the past eight years honorary medical officer of the Auckland City Mission. The King approved the appointment of Mr A. J. Clerk Kerr, British Minister at Stockholm, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at Baghdad, in succession to Mr Francis Humphreys, who is relinquishing the appointment in the Spring.—Official Wireless. Guests at Revington’s include: — Mr and Mrs T. E. James (Wellington), Messrs T. W. Watson, W. H. Dudderidge, G. ,D. Stuart, W. Shaw, A. E. H. Christie, J. L. Davis, Turner Smith, >E. A. Gasson, E. J. Kenny, G. J. Kennedy, R. G. Pilkington (Christchurch), G. Perry (Hokitika), N. C. Pauli (Sydney). The death occurred yesterday, at the residence of her son, Mr Richard Sweetman, Alexander Street, Greymouth, of Mrs Johannah Sweetman, a mative of County Kerry, Ireland, aged 74 years. Deceased, who came to the Dominion about fifty years ago lived for many years with her husband, the late Peter Sweetman, at Nelson Creek, and,, prior to her marriage, was for some years employed by the-late Martin Kennedy. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs J. Keating (Kumara) and seven sons, John (Nelson Creek), Richard (Greymouth), Peter (Cobden), Gus (Kumara), Thomas (Wiairoa), and Michael and Patrick (Wellington); also eighteen grandchildren and a great-grandchild. e The funeral will take place to-morrow afternoon, at Karoro Cemetery.
