NEXT WEEK’S PROGRAMME,.

[special to “star.”] WELLINGTON, October 20. Next week will see a. number of important Bills introduced in the House of Representatives, it being the intention of the Government to get as much of its legislative programme circulated as is possible in view of the anticipated adjournment about the end of >»the month. Besides the emergency dairy legislation, there will be an Unemployment Amendment Bill giving legislative effect to the Budget proposal to exempt youths under the age of twenty years from the wage tax, a Motor Traffic Control measure, which will establish speed limits for the whole Dominion, a Finance Bill, and possibly the Washing-up Bill. 'Phe report of the Native Affairs Commission was handed to His Excellency the Administrator (Sir Michael Myers) to-day, and this will come into possession of the Government on Monday. The date of its presentation to the House has not yet been decided but it is almost certain to come down next week.

The final report of the Companies’ Commission is also to be presented within a few days, and it is understood that this will include some important suggestions for the better control of investment), and interlocked concerns. Legislation will be drafted incorporating some of the recommendations of the Commission. MEAT NEGOTIATIONS. No word has yet been received by the Government concerning the meat negotiations which are to take place in London this month, between the British Government and the High Commissioner for New Zealand (Sir J. Parr). Mr. David Jones, (Chairman of the Meat Producers’ Board, who is to advise the High Commissioner, should have arrived in London yesterday or to-day, and it is anticipated that it will not be long before the delicate conference, which will vitally affect both the meat and dairy farmers in New Zealand, will commence. The Nev.' Zealand Government is anxious to obtain a statement of policy on the meat, importation question from the British authorities, and is particularly desirous of knowing the plans which Britain, has for next year, so that arrangements to meet the position in New Zealand can be made, on a com paratively long range basis.
