ARCHBISHOP’S TRIBUTE [per press association.] AUCKLAND, October 11. Appreciation of the effort of Lord and Lady Bledisloe to promote the spiritual, moral and temporal welfare of the people of New Zealand during their sojourn in the Dominion was expressed by Archbishop Averil in his charge to the Anglican Synod. “As their Excellencies will have completed their term of office in New Zealand before the next meeting of the Synod, and as their work and influence have been of inestimable value and benefit to the whole community, it is fitting that we should place on record our sincere appreciation of their fruitful service and noble efforts in all matters pertaining to spiritual, moral and temporal welfare of the people of this Dominion,” said the Archbishop. “We fully realise that they have set a high standard of devotion to the great principles of duty and service, and have contributed in no small measure to all that is best in our national life.” He added that their Excellencies' own high ideals and their own faithful interpretation of love, sympathy and deep, interest and concern which exists in the kindly heart of King George for all his subjects in his farflung Empire, had served to strengthen and cement the loyalty of New Zealand to the person of the King, and to make this most distant outpost of the British Empire even more loyal than it was before. “In expressing to our GovernorGeneral and Lady Bledisloe, our real gratitude for all that they have been to and done for this Dominion, and our deep regret at their approaching departure from our midst. We shall,” said the Archbishop, “also desire to express fervent hope that they may long be spared to continue their unselfish service in the Homeland for the glory of God and the well-being of mankind.”
