ENTERTAINMENTS

OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT Rebe Daniels and Victor Varconi are featured in “The Song You Gave Me,” a screen classic, to be finally screened to-night. The added attraction, the second cricket Test, England v. Australia, will be shown for the last time. FRIDAY AND SATURDAY “Emergency Call,” a swift-paced picture, red-blooded drama of the heroism of the hospital ambulance service, will be screened Friday and Saturday. Bill Boyd, Wynne Gibson, and William Gargan have the leading roles. Trapped in an abandoned warehouse by a fake emergency call, Bradley and Brennan engage in a savage fight with murderous ruffians. Police come to their aid, but Brennan has been stabbed, and an operation is necessary to save his life. Bradley performs the surgery. The action races to a sensational climax when Bradley corners the racketeering chief. The climax is the death of the gangster at the hands of Brennan’s sweetheart nurse, Wynne Gibson. A coloured cartoon, “Santa’s Workshop,” and a Charlie Chaplin comedy “The Cure,” will also be shown. At Blackball to-night, “This is the Life” will be shown; and at Runanga to-night, “Going Gay,” will be shown. NELSON CREEK BALL. The Nelson Creek Hall will present its usual welcome to those attending the Ball next Saturday, and not a dull moment will be encountered during the evening. The music is being supplied by the Happiness Boys’ Dance Band and this will be their last public appearance prior to their disbanding, so they will surely leave a happy memory on this night. The proceeds are in aid of the Anglican Church Funds.
