UNITED TENNIS CLUB. The following is the report of the President of.the United Tennis Club which is to be submitted to the annual meeting to be held on Monday next:—The play throughout the season was of a very high standard and all matches were keenly contested. The membership for the year was men 25, ladies 35. Finances are in a very sound position and this club should now look to having all courts and surrounding areas put in perfect condition. The results of the different matches held for the season were: Men’s Championship Singles, R. Kear, runner-up, A. L. McKay. Ladies’ Championship Singles, Mrs H. Prescott, runner-up Miss E. Boddy. Men’s “B” Championship Singles, G. Loveridge, runner-up, A. Hearn. Ladies’ “B” Championship Singles, Miss E.. Heinz, runner-up, Miss. C. Hannan. This club played matches with outside clubs with the following results: — Played Waiuta at Greymouth, unfinished owing to rain; played Hokitika A and B teams; defeated Greymouth A and B teams; defeated Hokitika A and B. teams; B. team played Cobden, unfinished owing to rain; B team lost to Greymouth B team; lost to Westport at Westport. Messrs Kear, P. Warnes and C. Burley played for the West Coast team which played matches in Christchurch. All these players acquitted themselves well, and by participating in more of such games they should reach the highest standard. This club was well represented in the West Coast tennis tournament, which was held at Westport. Through rain intervening many of them forfeited their matches and returned home. This Club congratulates Mrs C. Neville and Miss R. Anderson on their splendid performances during this tournament. This Club received from Mr W. Lints, now of Rotorua, a Cup, Which is to be presented to the most improved player. Mr Lints is to be heartily congratulated and thanked for his most generous donation. The ladies are to be heartily congratulated upon the manner in which they looked after and provided the afternoon' teas. The Press also are to be thanked for their full report of matches played, also for the useful hints which they publish. In conclusion, although this Club enjoyed, perhaps, its most successful season, I can only wish that the coming season proves even more successful. .aJ&I&I !

PERRY’S SUPREMACY. RUGBY, September 13. Now that all the international events on which classification is based have ended, Wallis Myers ranks the first ten tennis players of 1934 as follow: Perry, Crawford, Cramm, Austin, Allison, Wood, Menzel, Shields, Stefani, and Boussus. He says that Crawford may still be a greater artist than Perry, but that the latter has proved himself betterconditioned, richer in stamina, and a greater fifth-set fighter. Perry is the first player to have gained in one year, the Wimbledon, American and Australian championships.
