BOY AWARDED £3OO DAMAGES SYDNEY, August 31. An action of importance to show societies was heard in the Gasino District Court by Judge Clancy, when £4OO damages were claimed by Harold Robert Hayhoe, on behalf of his son, Harold Clement Hayhoe, from Urbenville Pastoral and Agricultuial Society, for permanent disfigurement . and medical expenses. The claim arose out of an accident , to the son at Urbenville show on March S, when he was gored in the face by a steer during a steel-tiding : contest. . John Coughran, a rider in the coinpetition, said that a steer he was liding charged into a crowd of people and picked up the boy Hayhoe on its , horns, and carried him 15 yaids. Evidence was given that the steers were in a mad state when released from the crush, and, in some cases, jumped the fence and got among the crowd. . It was also stated m evidence that the crowd encroached on the ring during the events, and had been put back by the police on a number of i occasions. When the accident .happened plaintiff was in the ring among the crowd. His Honor said that the conduct of the committee was such as to make the defendant society responsible for the child, and he gave a verdict for £3OO. t , A stay of proceedings was granted.
