GREYMOUTH SURF CLUB. Mr F. Thorpy presided over an attendance of the following at a meeting of the Greymouth Surf and Life Saving Club: Messrs P. G. Smith, C. Richardson, F. W. Gilbert, R. Beckman, E. Price, and the secretary, T. H. Lawry. . The Social Committee, submitted the balance sheet, showing a, credit balance of £29/17/6. The balance sheet was adopted, and a vote ot thanks was passed to the committee and Mr Gilbert for their successful work. It, was decided that the Committee enquire regarding necessary procedure. for incorporating and registering the Club. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr E. Myers, of Nelson Creek, for his donation, and he was elected an honorary member.

It was decided to place all monies in hand, in the Club’s account at the Post Office Savings Bank. CYCLING. (Notes by “Ankler.”) The Grey United Cycling Club’s -winter road-racing season has been successful, each race attracting good entries. Most of the races were held in the Runanga, Rapahoe, Brunner, and Kumara districts, where they attracted considerable public interest. The Club proposes to hold another race at Hokitika, or from Hokitika to Greymouth in the near future. Some of the members of the now defunct Hokitika Club have promised their support. The Lest rider of the season is undoubtedly P. Duffy. His successes include seven firsts, one second, and eight fastest times for nine races. Considering that he rode from the scratch mark on his- own in all the races he is entitled to be proud of his performances. W. Innes, one of the oldest club members, is a hard rider, but has been unlucky all the year. He has competed in all the races and has been placed in'some ot them, but where there is a good prize offering he alwavs seems to miss. If c J. Larking would train .seriously ho -would be a first-class rider and ■would be a serious rival to Duffy, especially on the track. He had a bad spill on the Arahura bridge in the last race, but was not seriously hurt.

J. Daniels, last year’s Cup winner, has not been so successful on the road, but has had more than his share of punctures. He should be in form for the next track season.

R. Lewis, R. Harvey, R. Daniels, J. Archer, D. Morland, and D. Johnston were the best of a good lot of juniors last track season. D. Johnston, a young, -well-built rider, is one of the finds of the year. He is a good stayer, and this, combined with a fast sprint, gives promise of another champion. Vern Hogarth is a good rider more at home on the road than on the track. His one bad tendency is to try too much on his own.

J. Taylor surprised everyone by getting second place in the Grey-mcuth-Hokitika race. He is not a sprinter, but his gameness gets him a long way. The Club will be ably represented in the Oamaru-Christchurch road race this month by D. Clarke and Les Hogarth. The former is a good distance rider, and one of the best sports in the club. His weak point is in his sprinting, but he always finishes better after a hard ride.. L. Hogarth has been training seriously for the event, and barring punctures and spills, -will be close up at the finish. Despite his small build he has great endurance powers and is a good sprinter. Two years ago he gained fastest time under 18 years in tho Waimate race.

Handicaps for the road race, from Karoro to Camerons, and return (approximately 12 miles) have been declared as follow: —A. Colville, J. Taylor, M. Malone, D. Henderson smin. 20sec., J. Archer, R. Lewis 4.45, R. Daniels, D. Morland, Bellamy 3.40, V. Hogarth, R. Johnston, D. Lyons 2.50, E. Thomas, W. Innes, J. Larking, J. Daniels, H. McKenzie 1.45, L. Hogarth, D. Clarke 40, P. Duffy scr.
