TRAM PASSENGER KILLED
ANOTHER SERIOUSLY INJURED. [PEK PBESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND. September 11. Through stepping from a moving tramcar in Upper Queen Street tonight, an elderly man. C. P. Shepherd, suffered fatal injuries, and his daughter, Mrs Meale, was seriously injured. The two were travelling to the city from their home at Sandringham. The tram had pulled up at a stop below an intersection, and when the vehicle was again under way, Shepherd, and then Mrs Meale, stepped from it. it is stated that the car had travelled about two lengths when the two passengers stepped off. Mrs Meale was picked up some distance further down the street than her father. Both suffered head injuries, Shepherd dying about an hour after the accident. Mrs Meale later regained consciousness, but at a late hour her condition was reported to be fairly serious. A tragic feature of the accident is that Shepherd’s wife is at Wanganui, and Mrs Meale's husband is at Coromandel.
