WESTLAND ACCLIMATISATION. [our own correspondent.] HOKITIKA, September 8. The monthly meeting of the Westland Acclimatisation Society w r as held last evening. Present: Dr. Teichelmann (president), Messrs D. J. Evans, A. C. Armstrong, J. N. Robinson, Jas. King, R. Paterson, W. Braddon, R. Stuart, G. Perry, and the secretary (H. W. Lodge). An apology for absence was received from Mr Radford. The Secretary reported that he had received a statement from three opossum trappers regarding a case of alleged poaching, and that the information received had been supplied to the police for their action. The Secretary of the Juvenile Library Committee wrote requesting a donation towards the purchase of books of outdoor life. —It was decided to vote two guineas. The Secretary was authorised to purchase a second-hand typewriter, for the use of the Society. The Southland Acclimatisation Society advised that the final instalment of trout ova would be forwarded this week. Accounts amounting to £B2/16/11 were passed for payment. \ The Secretary of the Grey Society wrote requesting a list of last year’s fishing license-holders. —Information supplied. The Secretary reported that he had stamped a total of 10,257 opossum skins for the season, which represented approximately a 50 per cent, increase on the stampings of last season. Royalty on 31 shags’ heads was passed for payment. The Chairman of the Hatchery reported a successful season to date, all the consignment of ova being received in good condition. A total of one million fry would be available for distribution for the season.
