GAMING AMENDMENT BILL
PASSED BY COUNCIL. [pee press association.] WELLINGTON, September 7. The Legislative Council went into committee on the Gaming Amendment Bill. Mr Isitt condemned the provision ot the double tote on the ground that it would increase gambling. He said the racing clubs desired to get some of the money now going to the bookmaker, and he preferred to see the bookmaker get it rather than the clubs, which would increase the number of race meetings. Mr Bloodworth said that betting was conducted all over the Dominion, and the more it was confined to the .'racecourse;, the less wipuld be the temptation to the people. The clause was passed by 19 to 2. Mr Isitt also opposed the clause relating to the publication of dividends, on the ground that it would popularise betting by giving further information. Mr McLeod said that the public was entitled to information which at present could be obtained from other sources. The clause was passed by IS to 3. The Bill was read a third time and passed. _______________
