MEETINGS TO COME. Sept. 15 —Ashburton. Sept. 13, 15— Wanganui. Sept. 20, 22—Geraldine. Sept.—22—Foxton. Sept. 28, 29— Marlborough. They Intend to Stay: Martian Chief is the only one of the Dominion horses now in Australia who has been nominated for the New Zealand Cup. His Record is Against Him: T. Lloyd intends to race Tout le Monde at Ashburton next week. The Limond gelding ran a generous race over nine furlongs at the Grand National meeting and his trainer has not given up hope that he will develop the form which has been expected from him. Legatee: The first of the stock of the young sire Posterity, raced at Marton was Legatee, a colt out of Motley, so a half-brother to Midinette and Variant. Legatee is trained at Awapuni by G. W. New. The general opinion seems to be that the stock of Posterity will require a little time as his pedigree denotes stamina, but so far as Legatee is concerned, there is abundance of speed on the dam’s side. Engaged at Wanganui: Hauwai, who has not raced since he ran second to Valpeen in the Great Northern Steeplechase, is reported to be working well at Awapuni. He is engaged in both hack hurdle races at the Wanganui meeting, to he held on September 3 and 15. Hauwai is a reliable jumper, possessing a fair amount of pace, and should pay his way over the battens.

Debutante Stakes Candidates: Mrs A. W. McDonald will be represented in the Debutante Stakes at Wanganui by Round Up and Romp Along. These two youngsters were accorded a sprint from the two-fur-long barrier at Awapuni last week and Round Up made it apparent that he possesses a fair amount of speed by beating his companion home by two lengths and a half in 255. Both these juveniles are owned by Mr A. Syme.

An Improved Novice: One of the most improved novices at Ellerslie is the four-year-old gelding Aramis, who is attached to R. S. Eagby’s stable. He has hardened up in condition very noticeably during the last month, and although he is not being unduly hurried in his preparation he should be in good order by the time the spring meetings arrive. Boat Song: '

A new arrival at Ellerslie is the chestnut gelding, Boat Song, who has joined R. McTavish’s stable. This hack, who showed promising form last season when raced in the Gisborne district, is a four-year-old gelding by Mimetic from Barcarolle, by Martian from Grand Opera. He is a half-brother to Town Major, and should do well for the Ellerslie trainer.

To Race Over Hurdles: Latest reports from Awapuni state that Calydon was given a schooling over hurdles recently and got through his task in a satisfactory manner. He has been entered for both hack hurdle events at the Wanganui meeting, and all going well will make his initial appearance as a jumper at that fixture. Calydon possesses abundance of speed and also stays on well, two factors that should enable him to pay his way over the battens when he has had a bit of experience. TREGILLA INJURED SYDNEY, September 6. Advice has been received that Tregilla, the 1930 A.J.C. Derby winner, was seriously injured at Gulgong stud, when he - broke both forelegs. Probably he will be destroyed.
