The pilot took the Auto-gyro up to a 7200 feet altitude to make atmospheric soundings. He descended when he found that the propeller blades were out of adjustment. The temperature was 28 degrees below zero. The pilot reported the opening of the Bay of Whales, which was free of - ice. The Ross Sea was entirely open. A party started digging up the aeroplane buried by the first expedition. Reports from the Bolling Base state that Admiral Byrd’s recovery continues, but the date of his removal is indefinite.
