SCHOOL FOR TWO FAMILIES

SHUT AFTER 210 YEARS. After educating descendants of two families for 200 years Norman’s Endowed School, Norwich, is to be closed. Tho school was endowed by John Norman, a. Mayor and Alderman of Norwich, who died in 1721. His will provided for tho foundation and endowment of a school for the sons of persons who could prove relationship to himself or to his first wife. The site of the first school building is not definitely known. The present structure in Cowgate was built in 1839, with a capacity for 85 pupils. The number now on the school roll is G 3. Depleted funds is the main reason for. the trustees’ decision to close tho school. The trustees will continue to administer the endowment, but will do so in co-operation with the Board ef Education and, probably, the City of Norwich Education Committee. How many descendants of the founder and his first wife have been educated at the school it is difficult to compute, but there is evidence, however, that within the last 50 years mroe than 500 boys have passed through the school.
