“WHITE GLOVES"
GREYMOUTH SUPREME COURT. A pair of white gloves was presented to Mr Justice Johnston, in the Supreme Court, Greymouth, today, by the Registrar (Mr L. W. Louisson), in recognition of the fact that there were no criminal cases for trial. During recent years, said the Registrar, the criminal list had been remarkably short, and this was the second occasion on which white gloves had been presented. In returning thanks, on behalf of the Grand Jury, His Honor said that the district was to be heartily congratulated on the fact that there were no criminal cases to be tried at this sitting. It spoke well for the district, and for the confidence the public had in the administration of justice through the Magistrates and subordinate judicial bodies, and reflected great credit on all those concerned with the administration of justice. It was very pleasing and gratifying to him, added Elis Honor, to find this condition of affairs, which, although they could not in reason expect it to be always the case, was very satisfactory. and he hoped that it would, so far as possible, continue.
