One Moslem was killed, and 14 Moslems and Hindus hurt in rioting at Triplicane Beach, Madras. The combatants engaged in a bitter hand-to-hand battle in semi-darkness, using weapons from wood stacks, and smashing fishing boats. They were dispersed by the police. FLOOD HAVOC. CALCUTTA, September 4. Some idea of the damage done in Bihar by recent floods may be gathered from the communique issued from Ranchi to-day. It states that in the Dinapore subdivision alone, the area affected is 270 square miles, 256 villages being inundated and 6500 houses destroyed.
