MAN AND HIS MONEY
TWO WOMEN ACCUSED CABARET VISIT SEQUEL [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, September 5. Trial by jury was elected by two well-dressed girls, who appeared before Mr Page, S.M., to-day, charged with the theft of £l5 from Kennenth Haywood Taylor May, of New Plymouth, salesman. Accused were Ruby Bulliffy, 26, and Olive May Fletcher, 24. May, in evidence said he met the two accused in the lounge of the Regent Hotel. After shouting for them, he took them to dinner. He had never met them before, and did not know their names. He accompanied them to a cabaret at Lyall Bay, where they had drinks and supper. After supper he felt ill, and on his way to town he had to leave the taxi.. Accused were very concerned, and did their best to assist him, but when he got back to the taxi, they were not there. On reaching his hotel he found the money was not in his pockets. He said that he had about eight drinks at the cabaret and did not recollect how much he spent on liquor. When he ordered the drinks he might have handed the money over to the girls. He did not know who paid for the taxi on return.
At this stage the case was adjourned till to-morrow.
