OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT.

The two star attractions “King of the Jungle” and “Smoke Lightning” will be finally screened to-night. WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY Noel Coward is one of the geniuses of the theatre who has been represented on the screen only twice —“Private Lives” and “Cavalcade” —until the current elaborate film “Bitter Sweet” beginning at Wednesday’s matinee. “Bitter Sweet” tells the story of the love of beautiful Sari for her handsome young music master. Sari, betrothed to a celebrity, runs away at the last second with the handsome, but penniless fiddler, Carl. They elope to Vienna, where Sari sings and Carl leads the orchestra in a cafe, and where bitter mixes with the sweet when a captain refuses to be discouraged in 'his attentions to the lovely Sari. Music, also by Coward, “I’ll See You Again,” “Dear Little Cafe,” “The Call of Life,” and the Tokay drinking songs are featured. Ivy St. Helier, who .played Manon in the New York and London productions sings two French numbers. WALLSEND TO-NIGHT. “Hawleys of High Street’ will be shown to-night. GRAND MILITARY BALL At last the night for which the whole town has been waiting has arrived. In a few short hours the host of merry dancers will be crowding into Schaef’s Hall, to experience, in one night, enough pleasure and enjoyment to last a life time. Forget your worries for a while and join in the fun. Moderate prices; splendid supper; beautiful decorations; best of music. MUNICIPAL BAND DANCE. Intending learners and dancers are reminded to attend the learners’ old-

time dance, to be held at the Municipal Bandroom to-night (Tuesday). Competent teachers in attendance; J. Marley’s music. The second aggregate of the United Club for the season concluded last Friday, the winners being Mr and Mrs S. Shannon and Mr F. Brassell with 137 flags each, and the winners for the evening Mrs A. Harrison, Mrs Hopgood and Mrs Stanton. The attendances have kept up right throughout the winter, proving that the game has lost none of its popularity and the Club looks forward to a record attendance next Friday when the third aggregate for the season commences.
