I — ♦ • [OUR own correspondent.] ' HOKITIKA, September 4. 1 The monthly meeting of the Hokitika Women’s Institute was held last evening, Mrs Bassett presiding over an attendance of about 50 members. Seven new members were elected. The roll call “What would you do if a burglar came into the house?” caused much merriment. Mr. A. W. Yarrall

was the adjudicator of a daffodil show which was won by Mrs P. Renton, jnr. Mrs Yarrall gave an interesting talk on gardening. Mrs Appleton demonstrated with rubber mats and bags. The hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Ferris, . Hewer and Johnston and Misses H. • Keller and B. Knight. A jolly party was held at St. Mary’s Club room last night, to mark the ' occasion of the marriage of Miss Groufsky to Mr. R. Gugich, which was solemnised at St. Mary’s Church yesterday morning.
