MAGISTRATE’S COURT

TO-DAY’S GREYMOUTH CASES. There was a comparatively short sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth to-day. Mr. H. Morgan, S.M., presided, and Senior-Sergeant E. Quayle represented the police. : A statutory first offender, arrested for drunkenness, was fined 5/-. the amount of his bail. On a. charge of being unlawfully on licensed premises, l he was lined 15./-, with 10/- costs. Seven statutory first offenders, caught after hours on licensed premises, were each fined 15/-, with costs. For failing to produce their motordrivers’ licenses, Edney Cochrane, George Cox, and Henry George were each fined 10/-, with costs. For riding a bicycle without a light, after sunset, William Bishop was fined 5/-. with costs. Frederick Donovan was fined £l, with costs, for permitting a bull to wander on the Ngahere—Blackball road on August 14. Nora Philemina Taylor (Mr. W. P. McCarthy) proceeded against William Taylor (Mr. T. F. Brosnan), for disobedience of a maintenance order for the ipayment of 30/- per week for herself and child, the arrears to date being £25/3/2. Defendant applied for a remission of the' arrears, and a reduction of the amount of the order, stating that he was now unemployed. The S.M., after hearing defendant’s evidence, adjourned the case for a fortnight, to enable Taylor to produce a certificate from his late employers, showing the amount of his earnings during the past twelve months.
