ARSENAL F.C.’S £23,018 PROFIT. LONDON, July 23. After writing off £lO,OOO for expenditure on their ground the Arsenal F.C., in winning the League championship, made a profit of £23,018 last year. These figures are the highest of any League club. Manchester City, the F.A. Cup winners, made £16,322, and Tottenham Hotspur, the Arsenal’s North London rivals, reported a profit of £15,838. From the Arsenal’s net profit £20,000 is transferred to the general reserve, which now stands at £50,000; £2,694 is carried forward; and £324 goes to, shareholders from a dividend of 7| per cent —the maximum allowed by the Football Association. Dividends account for only £324 because of the club’s small paid-up capital, which consists of 5,762 shares at £1 each. The club’s revenue was £77,947, with League match gate receipts totalling £52,707 and Cup-ties and “friendly” games producing £12,603. Other items were: Sale of season tickets, £5,208; London Combination match receipts £3,513; programmes and handbooks, £2,282. On the expenditure side players’ wages, benefits, transfers (including the provision for next season), bonuses and talent money took £34,801. Income-tax and reserve absorbed £6,870, and £3,431 went in travelling, hotel expenses and players’ equipment. Major-Gen. J. D. McLachlan has become a director of the Arsenal. A shareholder of the club for many years, he fills the vacancy on the board caused by the appointment of Mr G. F. Allison as secretarymanager.
