Advice has been received here that the death sentence on the aboriginal Takiar for the murder of Constable McColl has been commuted to one of imprisonment foi - life in the local gaol. Another aboriginal, named Butcher, who also had been sentenced to death, has had his sentence commuted to life imprisonment. He was convicted of the murder of William Jennings last January. MELBOURNE, August 30. The Federal High Court has granted leave to the aboriginal Tabiar, to appeal against his conviction. His counsel informed the Darwin Judge that Takiar’s confession he had killed McColl was untrue.
