MAYOR-ELECT SHOT DEAD. MALAGA (Spain), July 13. The secretary of the Corporation of Alozania, near Malaga, committed suicide to-day after he had shot dead the Mayor-elect at a corporation meeting and" started revolver battle in which at least four persons, including a woman, were seriously wounded. Suspicions had been felt recently about the state of the corporation’s funds. It was alleged that nearly £l,OOO had been embezzled. At today’s meeting, therefore, the secretary was asked to render the accounts. He immediately jumped up, whipped out a. revolver, and fired at the Mayor, shouting at the same time, “The sitting is suspended.” The bullet, missed the Mayor, who had leapt aside, but entered the brain of his son. the mayor-elect. Pandemonium ensued. Numerous shots were exchanged, and the public rushed in terorr for the exits. Three persons were left lying wounded on the floor of the council chamber —in addition to the dead secretary—and a woman fell injured outside the doors. The affair caused great unrest in the town. Police reinforcements have been sent from Malaga to deal with possible disturbances.
