WANTED A BISHOP
DIOCESE NOBODY WILL ACCEPT. Difficulty is being- experienced in finding a successor as Bishop of Bloemfontein to Dr. Walter Carey, one time English, Rugby international, boxer, and all-round athlete. Dr. Carey held the office from 1921 until last December. when he resigned to become “Chief Messenger” of the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel. According to an Exchange message from Cape Town, all. those to whom the bishopric has been offered have declined it, and an ecclesiastical committee has now been appointed to consider the situation. The diocese is large, and in many parts wild. It takes in the Orange Free State and Basutoland, including the old alluvial Vaal River diamond fields. (In population consists of about 100.000 whites ami .1,000,000 natives.
